PAPER SCISSORS ROCK

At risk of sounding like a nerd, I will reveal to you that I've been playing paper, scissors, rock with the computer via NY Times for the last ten minutes, and that it's been able to predict my behaviour and beat me, or at least draw with me on a number of rounds. Am I being technically naive here, or is this for real?

Computers mimic human reasoning by building on simple rules and statistical averages. Test your strategy against the computer in this rock-paper-scissors game illustrating basic artificial intelligence. Choose from two different modes: novice, where the computer learns to play from scratch, and veteran, where the computer pits over 200,000 rounds of previous experience against you.

QUOTES TO HELP EASE THE MIND

Please allow me one moment to bang on about this book I'm reading again: You Are Your Choices, by Alexandra Stoddard. There's this quote I've come across which is just genius, so I'm going to share it with you.

"Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."

This quote is from Reinhold Niebuhr and is the famous Serenity Prayer. I hope you'll adopt it in your daily lives and that it will lead your mind to new and free places, just like it has with me.

BRADLEY COOPER IN LIMITLESS

I clenched my fists with crazy joy when I saw this trailer at the movies. I felt like I'd come down with menopause in just two and a half minutes - and with plenty more meno in me to want to watch the trailer another four times when I came home. Too much action and a good plot is always the cause of a sharp hot flush. I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THIS MOVIE.

I CAN'T WAIT.
I CAN'T WAIT.
I CAN'T WAIT.

Riveting. Just riveting. His downfall is going to be catastrophic.

On 17 March, I'll be watching this movie from the Gold Class cinema. Why not splash out for a bit of Bradley Cooper, Abbie Cornish and Robert DeNiro? Is there anyone in Auckland who wishes to join me?

JENNY PACKHAM

Today I'm drawing inspiration from Jenny Packham and her amazingly exquisite SS11 gowns. Beautiful as always.

TAKE ME HIGHER

Here's a snapshot for you to get lost in. I love photofantasy. I just wish this could be a real alternative to avoiding those city crowds - especially on the muggy days.

Taken by talented photographer, Geof Kern.

A DAY OF PEARLY WHITES

Last week, I had one of those funny days where everything was going right. I was in a particularly positive and grateful mood, and somehow, the universe managed to know this and sent me smiles from various people in all sorts of directions.

A shop assistant wheeling plants into a garden centre. A toddler in the pram. The Mother pushing the pram. Multiple smiles from a lady who took my order at a cafe. An elderly gentleman in the carpark. Two school kids who almost collided into me at the supermarket.

It was great. I love days like that! I treasured each smile and did next what came naturally. Smiled back.

Stressed about work? Caught in the rat race? You need to think about escaping for a bit...
